the other是指两个中的另一个，这里other是代词，如：He has two daughters。One is a nurse，the other is an engineer。他有两个女儿，一个是护士，另一个是工程师。

the others意思是“其他东西，其余的人”,特指某一范围内的“其他的（人或物）”，可以看成是the other的复数形式。如：Two boys will go to the zoo，and the others will stay at home。两个男孩子将去动物园，而其余的留在家里。

other可以做形容词，表示其他的，比如other people其他的人。也可以做代词，但是做代词时一般不以原形出现，一般用以“the other”或者以复数形式“others”出现。

others

和some对比使用时，是“有些”的意思而不是做“其他”讲，如：Some cleaned the windows，others mopped the floor。有的擦窗户，有的擦地板。
